VW ID.BUZZ Tipped To Start At Under €60,000 In Germany

The all-electric VW ID.BUZZ is expected to start at under €60,000 ($68,546) in Germany once sales begin in September.

Company sources speaking with Automobilwoche have indicated prices for passenger variants of the ID.BUZZ will be similar to existing variants of the VW Multivan T6.1 while German government incentives could decrease the price to around the €50,000 ($57,000) mark.

Auto News reports that order books will open for select markets in May where the sole model will be initially available with a single, rear-mounted electric motor. An all-wheel-drive variant will be added to the range at a later date. It is also reported that a short-wheelbase variant with five seats will be the first model to hit the market before it is followed up by a long-wheelbase model stretched by almost 300 mm (11.8-inches), featuring a third row of seats.

Volkswagen will lift off the covers to the ID.BUZZ on March 9. Its unveiling will come more than five years after it was presented as a concept and recent spy images have revealed that it will retain a somewhat similar design to the concept while fitting in neatly with the rest of VW’s ID models.

The front fascia of the ID.BUZZ will sport a pair of eye-catching LED headlights with a pronounced light bar. It will also feature a large lower front grille that will house many of the sensors enabling its semi-autonomous driving features. The rear will also stand out with LED taillights.

Recently leaked images of the van’s interior have also shown what will be going on inside. It will sport the same digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen as other ID models. The second row will have a fairly traditional bench seat while in the rear will be a large cargo area with a flat floor.
