Honda Previews New Electric SUV With e:Ny1 Prototype, Confirms America’s 2023 HR-V For Europe

Honda today revealed two new crossovers that it plans to introduce to the European market in the near future, one electric and one hybrid, as well as confirming electrified versions for the upcoming, next generation CR-V.

The electric crossover will be the smaller of the two and its design strongly reminds us of the European HR-V. The Hyundai Kona Electric-rivaling concept is called the  e:Ny1 Prototype and it’s believed to ride on a stretched version of the Honda e’s platform.

“Coming to market in 2023, this new B-segment SUV EV will be at the center of Honda’s future product line-up,” said Katsuhisa Okuda, president of Honda Europe during a presentation. “Offering the unique blend of dynamics, technology, and design that Honda is known for, this car will provide a great option for families looking for their first EV.”

No technical specs have been revealed for the e:Ny1 Concept but it may be related to the e:NS1 and e:NP1 concepts from China, which feature a 68.8 kWh battery that has a claimed range of up to 311 miles (500 km), according to local testing.

Honda’s new European C-SUV looks familiar because it’s America’s 2023 HR-V

The hybrid crossover that Honda teased today does not, meanwhile, have a name. But we already know what it is. If it reminds you of something, that’s because it’s the same teasers Honda used to preview North America’s 2023 HR-V that’s could be revealed as early as next month’s New York Auto Show. Honda already offers a European market-specific HR-V, which is the same as the one Japan and other select regions get, but unrelated to America’s 2023 HR-V. It remains to be seen how Honda will fit two similar sized models in its European range, though it is possible that the unnamed model could squeeze between the HR-V and the CR-V in Honda’s lineup across the pond.

“In 2023 Honda will further expand the availability of our e:HEV full hybrid technology with the launch of an all-new C-segment SUV,” Tom Gardiner, senior vice president of Honda Motor Europe told Auto Express. “Sitting alongside Honda’s existing HR-V and CR-V and the all-new e:NY1, this car will provide a compelling option for those customers looking for a sporty, dynamic, full-hybrid option.”
