2023 Mercedes EQE SUV Spied Undisguised, Will Go Into Production Later This Year

The Mercedes EQE SUV has been spied undisguised, while being loaded onto a transport vehicle.

While this particular prototype was designed to be subjected to crash tests, it wears production bodywork and gives us our best look at the upcoming electric crossover.

As you can see, the model follows in the footsteps of the EQE and features a fully enclosed grille that flows into sweptback headlights. Further below, we can see a large central intake which is framed by chrome accents. Faux intakes are located at the outside edges and presumably direct air to vertical air curtains.

The pictures only offer a glimpse of the crossover’s profile, but it features aerodynamically optimized wheels and EQE badging near the A-pillar. We can also see flush-mounted door handles and streamlined bodywork that echoes the sedan.

Out back, there’s an angular rear window that resides beneath a modest spoiler. We can also see full-width taillights and room for a prominent star logo. There’s also a curvy rear bumper with a prominent license plate recess.

The interior should echo the sedan and this means we can expect a futuristic cabin with an MBUX Hyperscreen. The latter consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger. It will likely be joined by a floating center console, turbine-style air vents, and minimalist switchgear.

Powertrain options will likely be shared with the EQE and this means we can expect a roughly 90 kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted electric motor developing 288 hp (215 kW / 292 PS). This setup gives the EQE sedan a range of up to 410 miles (660 km) in the WLTP cycle. We can also expect a dual-motor all-wheel drive variant, but Mercedes has been coy on specifics.

Later on, we can expect AMG variants including an EQE SUV 43 4MATIC that features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS) and 633 lb-ft (858 Nm) of torque. It should be joined by an EQE 53 4MATIC+, which sports more powerful motors developing a combined output of 617 hp (460 kW / 626 PS) and 701 lb-ft (950 Nm) of torque.

We’ll learn more about the model later this year as Mercedes has already confirmed the EQE SUV and EQS SUV will go into production in Tuscaloosa, Alabama by the end of 2022.
