2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 – electric Gran Coupe
If you are a fan of BMW’s classic rear-wheel drive and want to combine driving pleasure with modern technology, then the Bavarian brand can offer you the new i4 eDrive35, equipped with a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The eDrive electric motor belongs to the 5th generation and has a capacity of 210 kW (285 hp). The unit itself consists of the electric drive, transmission and power electronics combined in one body.
The BMW i4 eDrive35 is at the beginning of the sedan range and is an electric Gran Coupe. Looking at the i4 lineup, higher up are the i4 eDrive40 with a more powerful 260 kW (355 hp) electric motor and the powerful all-wheel-drive i4 M50 with a combined output of two electric motors at 536 horsepower.
The i4 eDrive35 features a 66 kWh battery with a range of up to 305 miles (490 km) on WLTP and 260 miles (418 km) on EPA, while the older models feature an 81.5 kWh battery with up to 352 miles (566 km) on WLTP or 301 miles (484 km) on EPA.
The maximum speed charging capacity for the i4 eDrive35 is 180 kW, while the maximum capacity of the other two models is around 200 kW. This means that it takes about 30 minutes to charge the battery of the younger electric car model from 10 to 80 percent of capacity.
The i4 eDrive35 accelerates to 60 mph (to 100 km/h) in a modest 5.8 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited at 118 MPH (190 km/h).
The car is equipped with IconicSounds Electric, which mimics the sound made by the engine. By shifting the lever to SPORT mode, you hear a dynamic and powerful car sound. The system provides acoustic feedback when you press the accelerator pedal and accelerate.
In the interior of the car, the front flat panel looks elegant. The car is equipped with a display that consists of a 12.3-inch monitor mounted on the dashboard and a 14.9-inch display in the center. Together, these two monitors look like a single unit. The larger display faces the driver. The electric car is a five-seater car in full configuration, the back seat can accommodate three passengers. For a comfortable ride in the cabin, there is enough space for the legs and overhead.
The electric car also has a smart assistant, called- Intelligent Personal. Assistant recognizes voice commands and allows you to manage the service Apple CarPlay.
The optional Hi-Fi sound system has 10 speakers with a peak output of 205 watts. If the standard acoustics are not enough, the Harman Kardon surround sound system is available for lovers of quality sound, which will be equipped with 16 speakers in addition to the digital amplifier for seven channels and a capacity of 464 W.
The new BMW i4 will be produced at the BMW GmbH plant in Munich. We hope that the promises will come true and the first models will arrive in the U.S. at the beginning of 2023.
