Land Rover Classic Defender Works V8 Trophy II will be produced in a limited edition of 25

The Land Rover Defender has a new generation for 2019, but the British automaker’s Classic division has unveiled another updated, expedition-inspired version for 2022. The Land Rover Classic Defender Works V8 Trophy II is the successor to last year’s Works V8 Trophy and will be produced in a limited edition of 25.

The special Defender will be based on vehicles produced between 2012 and 2016. Each Defender will be disassembled and restored by hand with various improvements. Works V8 Trophy II will be available in three different body styles. Specifically, Land Rover Classic will build 10 Model 90 units, 10 Model 110 Station Wagon units and five Model 110 Double Cab Pick-Up units.

The Trophy II exterior features a camouflage paint scheme that symbolizes 23 locations from Land Rover’s past off-road adventures and the silhouette of the classic Defender. All 25 units will be painted Fuji White combined with a Narvik Black roof, black accents, hood in black and a set of 18-inch black Sawtooth alloy wheels. The model also gets a Heritage badge and a set of off-road components.

Additional items include a front winch in front of the grille, full-width LED headlights, a roof rack that connects to the frame and rear ladder, axle guards, fenders and a rear escape point. Inside, we find two-tone Recaro sport seats, Windsor leather upholstery with white stitching, a pistol-shift automatic transmission, a new Land Rover Classic infotainment system and an Elliot Brown clock with matching camouflage design.

Under the hood is a good old-fashioned 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that, while not as powerful as the new Defender V8, still produces 400 hp (298 kW / 405 PS) and 515 Nm (380 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the four wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The Land Rover Classic also revised the suspension, brakes, and steering to improve the handling and driving dynamics of the original.

The Land Rover Classic Defender Works V8 Trophy II is priced from £225,000 ($273,593) in the UK for the 90 body version, making it more expensive than its predecessor. However, we are confident that all 25 will be sold in short order, as there are many Land Rover enthusiasts eager to purchase rare OEM-quality versions of the classic Defender. Owners of the special edition will be invited to participate in a three-day Land Rover Trophy event. There they will be able to take part in a series of off-road tests, and the winning team will receive the grand prize.
