Is This The Third-Generation Porsche Panamera?

Spy photographers snapped a lightly revised Porsche Panamera last month and this led them to believe the company was working on another facelift.

Now they’ve snapped a couple of other prototypes and it appears the earlier model was a mule for the next-generation Panamera, which can apparently be seen in these pictures.

While that remains unconfirmed, they note the sheer number of differences between these prototypes and the current Panamera. The changes are easy to overlook at first glance, but the prototypes have a circular fuel door instead of the square one found on the current model.

There’s also camouflage in unusual places such as the front fenders and rear quarter glass area. Spy photographers also said the “door lines and door handles [are] different,” although they look pretty similar to us. Furthermore, there are an assortment of changes out back including what appears to be an updated hatch.

These changes, while small, add up and suggest Porsche could be working on a redesigned Panamera. That remains to be seen, but Porsche is known for evolutionary designs so it shouldn’t be surprising that the changes are relatively minor.

Little else is known about the model at this point, but the first-generation Panamera was built between 2009 and 2016. The second-generation model debuted in the summer of 2016 and would be due for a redesign next year if Porsche sticks with a seven year lifecycle. However, rumors have suggested the next-generation Panamera will arrive around 2025, so we might have to wait a bit longer.
