Alfa Romeo Giulia And Stelvio Updated With Matrix LED Lights, Digital Gauge Pack And Competizione Luxury Trim

Alfa Romeo’s Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV have been updated with matrix LED headlights and a digital instrument cluster in a facelift that brings the pair into line with the new Tonale.

Neither the sedan nor SUV looks radically different, but the standard-fit adaptive headlights and subtly recontoured Tribolo grille give a more modern look that’s clearly influenced by classic Alfas like the 1980s SZ coupe.

There’s also more commonality with the Tonale inside, as both the Giulia and Stelvio now benefit from a 12.3-in digital gauge cluster previously seen on the smaller SUV. The gauge pack’s Heritage mode looks like the instrument pack on a 1960s Giulia, but it can be configured to show more modern graphics in Evolved mode, or the bare minimum of info, a bit like an old Saab, in Relax mode.

And another technology borrowed from the Tonale is the NFT (non-fungible token) digital record of the car’s provenance and service history that Alfa thinks should help improve residual values and boost the confidence of fans buying used cars down the line.

The facelifted Alfas go on sale in February 2023 with a simplified lineup, again inspired by the Tonale’s. Entry-level Super models can be enhanced with the addition of a Sprint pack that adds some sporty visual details, while Ti versions get more equipment and can be upgraded with an optional Veloce pack.

Alfa has also added a new Competizione luxury trim for both cars that comes exclusively with a new matt grey paint, red brake calipers, adaptive dampers, a leather-covered dashboard, and, on the Stelvio, 21-inch wheels.

The company describes the Competizione models as the “highest expression of the essence of Alfa Romeo in terms of style, performance, and technology,” which sounds worrying to us because we thought the Quadrifoglios had that base covered. In fact, Alfa makes no mention of the Q cars. We’ve asked Alfa to clarify whether they’ve been dropped and will update the story when we hear back.

Engines that are confirmed – though availability depends on the market – include a new 158 hp (160 PS) turbodiesel with rear-wheel drive and a 207 hp (210 PS) diesel and 276 hp (280 PS) turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol motor, both with all-wheel drive.
