2022 Honda HR-V Detailed With Two Powertrain Options Down Under

Local specifications and pricing details for the 2022 Honda HR-V have been confirmed for the Australian market.

The third-generation HR-V has already been launched in overseas markets and in the coming weeks, display vehicles will start to arrive in Honda Centers across Australia. Just two grades of the new HR-V will be available, each with a different powertrain.

Sitting at the base of the 2022 HR-V family is the Vi X grade model. This model will be sold exclusively with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 89 kW (119 hp) at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque at 4,300 rpm. The Japanese car manufacturer says this engine consumes 5.8 liters/100 km (40.5 U.S. mpg) over the combined cycle.

Among the key features of the HR-V Vi X are Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keep Assist System, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, High Beam Support System, and Traffic Sign Recognition. It also features Honda’s Agile Handling Assist System and includes Hill Descent Control, Walk-away locking, a 9-inch infotainment screen, satellite navigation, 19-inch wheels, and privacy glass. Local pricing starts at AU$36,700 ($27,528).

The flagship HR-V takes the form of the e-HEV L. This model pairs a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and delivers a combined 96 kW (129 hp) between 4,000 and 8,000 rpm as well as 253 Nm (186 lb-ft) of torque. It also returns 4.3l/100 km (54.7 U.S. mpg) over the combined cycle.

The HR-V e-HEV L also lands with a host of other features that the Vi X doesn’t get. For example, there is a Blind Spot Information System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent speed assist, hands-free tailgate, auto-dimming rear view mirror, auto rain sensing wipers, LED active cornering lights, heated front seats, leather steering wheel, heated steering wheel, acoustic windscreen, and rear air vents with USB ports. Prices for this variant start at AU$45,000 ($33,754).

Aussies are offered five colors with the 2022 HR-V, consisting of Platinum White, Premium Opal, Crystal Black, Meteroid Grey, and Premium Crystal Red.

“Repositioned as a sophisticated entry point to the Honda vehicle line-up in Australia, the all-new HR-V represents the beginning of a new chapter for Honda’s small SUV, elevating premium styling and quality alongside the HR-V’s enduring trademarks of spaciousness and versatility,” Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said in a statement.
